...finding the asphalt again

About halfway along we decided to head inland and get back on the main road to make faster time towards Dakhla.

...time for lunch

We found our way with no problems, though the gps takes out a lot of the guesswork and we were soon lunching at Tan Tan Plage.

From Tan Tan PLage you really are on the long stretch of road that leads mostly along the coast of Western Sahara down to Mauritania. Western Sahara is illegally occupied by Morocco at the moment, so tourists are restricted by the Moroccan military to the coastal road, and one inland detour to Samara.

...cliffs mostly, not beach

The road is in great condition for the 1,000km plus to Dahkla, but don't expect long stretch's of beach to swim in. The coast is mostly high cliffs with the odd group of fishermen living in huts and dangling lines over the cliffs.
