The city of Dahkla sits on a 40km long spit of land that juts out into the atlantic. Until 1975 this was a Spanish outpost, as was most of Western Sahara until they gave up and went home. It is quite a large city with a pleasant laid back feel, dependent on fishing and it's large military presence, including the navy.

...no need for a fancy 4x4

We meet up with Wolfgang & Monika from Germany who were camping in their Mercedes Taxi. They were good company for dinner and conversation, though it was hard of them having to speak english for hours on end.

Over the next 10 days we camped up each night near the UN compound and explored the surrounding areas by day.

A strong wind is usually blowing either from the land or the sea, but being a peninsula you can just go to the side with the least wind and it's usually quite nice. If your into water/wind sports, this is the place to go...
