Half way along the piste I picked up a fishermen who was out checking his lines and gave him a ride back to his hut at the river mouth of Foum Assaka. I had tea with him (see the video) and more attempts at bad french were attempted.

The fishermen I meet was quite typical of the many others that you find up and down the coast lines of Morocco and Western Sahara. His family lived in the big city of Guelmim and he commuted out to fish, staying in his little makeshift hut and returning home every so often. Land rover taxis do regular services to pick up the fish and take it to market.

After sleeping parked up next to his hut I had some more tea in the morning with him and then headed onwards to Fort Bou Jerif.

...fort bou jerif camping/hotel

Work was underway to asphalt the road from Foum Assaka on the coast to the city of Guelmim, so the piste onwards to Fort Bou Jerif was nicely smoothed over by heavy machinery so it only took an hour to reach Fort Bou Jerif.

...vast fort complex

The fort is another old french fort, quite an extensive site this time. And next door is a french run camping/hotel/restaurant complex wich seemed a bit pricey to me, so I camped a few km away.
