Windy going along a smooth piste...

On this piste you get some feel for what the Sahara would be like if you were actually in it. Your not, it starts a long way to the south! But there's no reason why you can't pretend.

...but not always

I spent 3 days filming and driving this piste, and all 3 days were the same. Windy and dusty. From what I experienced of the desert regions this is the normal weather for at least 50% of the time, at least during winter anyway.

Still the scenery is very 'desert' in places and it's worth doing if you get the chance.

You will be hassled a lot at either end of the piste to take a guide, but I would suggest they are more trouble than they are worth. A compass, a map or better yet a guidebook with a route and a gps and you will find your way (ignore the gps if it says your in Algeria, the base maps are wrong - though check your way points have been typed in correctly!).
